SocialNetwork — Terms of Service

Welcome to SocialNetwork. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of SocialNetwork's websites, mobile applications, and connected services (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account or clicking "I Agree," you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing the Service you confirm that you are at least the minimum age permitted by your jurisdiction and that you have the authority to enter into these Terms.

2. Accounts and Registration
You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and for all activity under your account. SocialNetwork may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy.

3. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service for unlawful, harassing, or harmful conduct. SocialNetwork may remove content or accounts at its discretion.

4. User Content and Licenses
4.1 Licence Grant. By posting, uploading, or transmitting any photo, video, message, story, or other material through the Service (your "Content"), you grant SocialNetwork a worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable, transferable licence — which is perpetual and irrevocable — to host, store, use, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, publicly perform, and display your Content in any existing or future media, including after the termination or deletion of your account, for purposes including service operation, safety moderation, product improvement, machine-learning model training, and authorised commercial use by SocialNetwork and its affiliates.
4.2 Removal of Content. SocialNetwork may, but is not required to, remove Content that violates the Acceptable Use Policy. Removal of public copies does not terminate the licence in 4.1.

5. Friends, Followers, and Connections
You may connect with other accounts to share Content. The visibility of your Content depends on the privacy settings you select; defaults may change over time as the Service evolves.

6. Device Permissions
Certain features require access to your camera, microphone, contacts, and precise location. Enabling these features authorises SocialNetwork to collect the corresponding data in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

7. Messages, DMs, and Backups
7.1 Direct Messaging. The Service provides one-to-one and group messaging features ("DMs"). DMs are not end-to-end encrypted unless explicitly indicated within a particular thread.
7.2 Retention. Messages you send and receive may be retained for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to support backups, safety, and legal compliance.
7.3 Message Access. Direct messages, including those you have deleted, may be reviewed by SocialNetwork's safety, integrity, and machine-learning teams for moderation, abuse-prevention, and model-training purposes. Backups of deleted messages are retained for up to twelve (12) months and remain subject to access under this Section 7.3 during that period.

8. Targeted Advertising
8.1 Ad Personalization. SocialNetwork delivers advertising selected on the basis of your activity, content, friend graph, device, and inferred interests.
8.2 Ad Partners. SocialNetwork works with advertising partners who may receive hashed identifiers and audience signals about you.
8.3 Limited Controls. You may adjust some ad-personalization preferences in your account settings; opting out does not stop the collection of underlying data.
8.4 Inferred Categories. To improve advertising relevance, SocialNetwork may infer demographic and interest categories — including, where permitted, political affiliation, health interests, and sexual orientation — from your activity, friend graph, content, and the third-party data sources listed in the Privacy Policy.

9. Privacy and Biometrics
9.1 General. SocialNetwork collects device identifiers, IP addresses, precise location (where permitted), and usage patterns as described in the Privacy Policy.
9.2 Biometric Identifiers. When you upload photos, videos, or voice recordings, SocialNetwork may extract face geometry, vocal prints, and other biometric signals to support tagging, recommendation, and ad personalization. These signals may be shared with advertising partners for cross-platform identity matching, subject to applicable consent requirements.

10. Third-Party Services and Integrations
The Service may integrate with third-party platforms. Use of any third-party feature is subject to that party's own terms.

11. Law Enforcement and Legal Process
11.1 Compliance. SocialNetwork cooperates with valid legal process and may preserve or disclose Customer Data as required by law.
11.5 Government Requests. SocialNetwork may disclose Customer Data — including private message content, location history, and account metadata — to government authorities or law enforcement in response to subpoenas, court orders, national-security directives, or other requests it deems reasonable. SocialNetwork may be prohibited by law from notifying you of such disclosures.

12. Intellectual Property
All pre-existing software, trademarks, designs, and service marks of the Service are the exclusive property of SocialNetwork. The licence you grant under Section 4.1 does not transfer ownership of your underlying Content to SocialNetwork.

13. Changes to the Service or Terms
SocialNetwork may modify the Service or these Terms at any time. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

14. Termination
You may delete your account at any time. SocialNetwork may suspend or terminate access where a serious violation of the Acceptable Use Policy is identified.

19. Class-Action and Jury-Trial Waiver
You and SocialNetwork agree that any dispute will be resolved exclusively through individual binding arbitration and that you waive the right to a jury trial and to participate in any class-action, collective, or representative proceeding.
